About Me
Hi, there! I’m Mongoli.
I’m on a mission to help my clients thrive in everyday life through stress-free speech therapy.
My goal is to provide real connection through meaningful partnerships with my clients and their caregivers in order to make progress towards their personal goals. It is crucial that my clients and their caregivers connect and participate in therapy with me.
Without further ado, here’s a glimpse into my life:
The Mom
I am a mother to three children, with one daughter who was born with extraordinary medical needs. Through my daughter, I gained first-hand experience as a parent grieving the loss of a “normal” life for a child born to a lifetime sentencing of ongoing medical needs. In the early years of her life, I went on a mission to find a cure for her genetic disorder. Throughout that 2 year journey, I was consumed with desperation, helplessness, fear, anger, and frustration- I was lost. Every road I took was a dead end. In my defeat and darkenest moments, I gained a shift in perspective. I learned to live with grace and acceptance of who my child was created to be. It taught me to look for the best in every situation and to celebrate every milestone in life that we’ve overcome. It has shaped who I have become as a clinician.
I no longer just look at my clients from a clinician’s perspective, but also from a guardian’s perspective- filled with compassion, care, and understanding. I know their sadness, pain, and worries. I share the struggles, heartaches, and sleepless nights. I learned to recognize that there is empowerment in asking for help. We cannot do this alone. Therefore, I encourage all my clients and/or their guardians to find a team they can connect with to entrust their fears and cares to, to help them make the most informed decision regarding services for themselves or their loved ones.
As a result of my most vulnerable moments, I was inspired to create an extraordinary speech therapy practice because I serve extraordinary people: clients and caregivers who are overcoming obstacles and odds in their lives. In July 2019, I founded Thrive Online Speech Therapy, LLC. It was a creation of an unexpected collision of two worlds, being a mom with a child with extraordinary needs and a clinician serving children and adults with extraordinary needs.
The Person
Family is very important to me. Can one really separate the “mom” from the “person”? Our current family tradition is going on road trips in the summer to explore the beautiful beaches and historical landmarks and national parks in the West. My favorite memory so far is our trip to Yellowstone National Park and Bryce Canyon. We’re hoping to make a cross-country road trip with our children when they are older, to create memories that would last a lifetime.
I am a child at heart, which simply means the core of who I am is centered around enjoying life and laughing. I love to incorporate fun and games with my younger clients. I enjoy discussing story plots and characters from Harry Potter and Avengers movies with my adolescent clients. I enjoy listening to my young adult clients talk about their hopes, dreams, and aspirations. I enjoy discussing recipes and favorite meals or past memories with my elderly clients. There’s always something to look forward to and enjoy in each stage of life.
The Therapist
In my experience, human connection is centered around communication and sharing a meal. Did you know that through speech therapy I can help with both of these?
I am a licensed Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) in the states of Washington and Oregon. I am also a member of the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA), which is the national board for speech-language pathologists that requires rigorous maintenance of continuing education. I have experience working in early intervention with young children, in public schools with children aged 5-18 years, in adult transition programs for young adults aged 18-21 years, and in post-acute/long-term care rehabilitation with medically fragile and complex adults.
My educational background includes a Bachelor’s of Science in Speech and Hearing Sciences along with a minor in Psychology from Portland State University in 2006 and a Master’s of Science in Communication Disorders from California State University Northridge in 2011. I pride myself in keeping up with the most recent evidence-based practice through annual continuing education, additional professional certifications, and specialty training to better serve my clients. I am client-centered and provide therapy through an engaging, compassionate, holistic, and functional approach.
I am trained in DTTC (Dynamic Temporal Tactile Cueing) and ReST (Rapid Syllable Transition Treatment) for childhood apraxia of speech; SPEAK OUT! for Parkinson’s-related voice, swallow, and cognition symptoms; and Simon Says for oral-facial myology.
