Thrive Online Speech Therapy strives to serve adult clients through individualized goal planning and evidence-based services. Voice Disorders
Do you or a loved one suffer from any of the following as a result of Parkinson’s disease or a Parkinson’s-related disease? You or your loved ones can overcome these symptoms and improve your life quality.
Common struggles for adults with voice disorders:
- Reduced quality of life, social isolation, and/or feelings of hopelessness
- Social frustration resulting in shutting down, reduced communication, and/or having to repeat yourself over and over again
- Imprecise speech sound production or rate of speech
- Monotonous tone of voice, breathiness, or hoarse voice quality
Mongoli, SLP, is a SPEAK OUT! voice rehabilitation provider for adults with Parkinson’s or Parkinson’s-related diseases. Benefits of using a SPEAK OUT! provider:
- Access to an evidence-based voice rehabilitation program
- Increases ability to speak with intent, confidence level, and quality of life
- Improves swallow and cognitive function
- After completion of the SPEAK OUT! program, every client is invited to join a free ongoing LOUD Crowd! support group led by Mongoli, or another SPEAK OUT! provider to maintain their new way of speaking with both purpose and intent
Cognitive Disorders
Individuals living with a traumatic brain injury, dementia, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, or other neurological diseases that impact memory typically encounter difficulties that impact independent living.
Common struggles for adults with cognitive disorders:
- Completing all the steps necessary to safely cook a meal
- Managing money and paying bills
- Forgetting names of familiar family members or acquaintances,
- Creating and maintaining medication schedules
Mongoli, SLP, uses cognitive therapy and strategies to improve executive function, working memory, and short- and long-term memory skills for individuals with mild cognitive deficits or learning impairments. She also provides family coaching and staging for progressive Alzheimer’s disease and dementia to help families and caregivers care for their loved ones.
Adult Dysphagia
Dysphagia, or swallowing difficulty, can cause aspiration pneumonia, which is when food and liquids fall past the vocal cords and into the lungs, making you very sick. This is one of the leading causes of illness and death in adults with a swallow disorder.
Common struggles for adults with dysphagia:
- Irritating sensation, like a something is stuck in your throat, after you have swallowed
- Coughing, choking, or wet/gurgly voice throughout or after eating a meal
- Specialized hospital diet consisting of thickened liquids and modified food textures
- Alternative methods of feeding such as PEG/NG tube feedings
- Difficulty breathing after meals
Mongoli, SLP, specializes in dysphagia rehabilitation and strategies for medically complex adults. She provides information on food and drink preparation, identification of safe food texture and liquid consistency, and safe meal or recreational eating strategies. She also creates personalized compensatory strategies and swallow exercises to rehabilitate weak oral/pharyngeal muscles. Clients’ personal goals and preferences are important and are always taken into consideration when goal planning.
